The Best Brunch Spots in Poole

Poole’s brunch scene is more varied than it first appears. Alongside traditional full English breakfasts, we can find homemade Sicilian focaccia, waterside dining, colourful sharing boards and leisurely brunches close to Sandbanks.

Rather than choosing five venues offering almost identical menus, this guide brings together places suited to different occasions, from a casual breakfast before exploring Poole Quay to a slower weekend meal with friends.

For a brunch that feels noticeably different from the usual eggs-on-sourdough formula, Fili’s is one of Poole’s most interesting choices. Its Sicilian-inspired menu is built around focaccia and sourdough baked in the restaurant’s own pizza oven, bringing a distinctive Italian influence to familiar brunch dishes.

The Full Sicilian replaces the standard breakfast toast with rosemary focaccia and combines it with a fried egg, Sicilian fennel sausage, bacon, gratinated tomato, beans, garlic mushrooms and a Sicilian potato croquette. There is also a substantial vegetarian version with smashed avocado, vegan sausage and spinach.

The menu becomes even more distinctive on the sweeter side. Fili’s pane dolce is made with brioche toast and can be served with ricotta, chocolate chips, pistachio, candied orange and honey. Those preferring something savoury can choose avocado and smoked salmon on Sicilian sourdough, finished with poached eggs and red pesto Trapanese. Brunch is currently served from 10am until 2pm.

Best for: A creative brunch with flavours we are unlikely to recreate at home.

South Deep is the choice for brunch when the setting matters as much as the food. Hidden within Parkstone Bay Marina, the family-run restaurant overlooks the water and has grown from a modest café for local boaters into a substantial waterfront venue.

Its position gives brunch the feeling of a miniature coastal escape. We can sit in the light-filled interior, the Glasshouse or outside on the terrace, looking towards the boats in Parkstone Bay. Well-behaved dogs are welcomed in the Glasshouse and terrace areas, making this a useful option after a harbour walk.

South Deep currently takes breakfast reservations from 9am, with morning service generally finishing shortly after 11am. The kitchen emphasises seasonal ingredients and locally sourced produce, so dishes may change throughout the year rather than remaining fixed indefinitely. Parking at the marina is limited, and the restaurant advises allowing extra time during busy periods.

Best for: A relaxed waterfront brunch in one of Poole’s less obvious locations.

Deli on the Quay is particularly well placed for visitors spending the day around Poole Quay. Established in 2008, the independent deli combines homemade food, locally sourced ingredients and views across the harbour from its position at Dolphin Quays.

Its breakfast menu balances reliable favourites with a few more unusual choices. The Full English includes local pork sausages, back bacon, black pudding, fried eggs, mushroom, tomato and ham-hock bubble and squeak. The bubble and squeak can also be ordered separately with poached eggs.

There are three versions of its poached-egg breakfast: Benedict, Florentine and Boudin Noir, alongside avocado on sourdough, mushrooms on toast, granola and waffles with berries and maple syrup. Breakfast is currently served from 8.30am until 11am every day. The venue does not take reservations, although it says tables generally turn over quickly.

Best for: Brunch before a boat trip, museum visit or walk around Poole Old Town.

Nicholas James in Ashley Cross is well suited to the sociable side of brunch. Rather than everyone choosing a separate plate, groups can order the venue’s signature brunch board and turn breakfast into a longer, shared occasion.

The board combines sweet and savoury favourites, including smoked salmon, smashed avocado, charcuterie, pancakes, pastries, berries and granola. It is an appealing option when one person wants something indulgent while another would rather choose fruit, yoghurt or savoury dishes.

Its Ashley Cross location also makes it easy to continue the day nearby, whether we are browsing the surrounding independent businesses or meeting friends for drinks later. The brunch board’s mix of colours and textures gives it more of a celebratory feel than a standard cooked breakfast.

Best for: Birthdays, catch-ups and leisurely group brunches.

Close to Poole Harbour in Sandbanks, Lazy Jacks offers a relaxed coastal alternative to the busier beachfront cafés. Its weekend breakfast menu covers the classics while allowing diners to build a meal around their appetite.

Eggs Benedict, Royale and Florentine are served on toasted brioche, while the smashed avocado comes on sourdough with poached eggs, chilli flakes and butternut-squash houmous. The “Breakfast Your Way” section lets us combine items such as eggs, sausages, bacon, halloumi, avocado, mushrooms and hash browns.

There are lighter choices too, including granola with berries and honey. Breakfast cocktails are available, making this one of the better options for a weekend brunch that may extend beyond coffee. The latest published menu lists full breakfast service on Saturday and Sunday mornings, with a smaller weekday selection; timings and dishes should be checked before visiting.

Best for: A flexible Sandbanks brunch before a harbour or beach walk.
