Poole parkrun is a free weekly 5K community event organised by a team of local volunteers. Participants can complete the course at their own pace, whether they want to run competitively, jog with friends, walk the entire route or combine walking and running.
There is no requirement to finish within a particular time, and the event is not reserved for experienced runners. A Tail Walker remains at the back of the event, meaning nobody completing the full course is expected to finish last.
Spectators are also welcome, while anyone who does not want to take part in the 5K can become involved through one of the event’s volunteering roles.
The 5K course begins on West Field, close to the crazy golf facility in Poole Park. It follows a mixture of tarmac and compacted surfaces, with sections taking participants around the park’s open spaces and lake.
Poole is widely regarded as a flat and potentially fast parkrun course, making it popular with people attempting a personal best. However, its speed does not make it unsuitable for beginners. Walkers and slower participants are equally welcome.
The opening section crosses grass before joining the park road. Participants should be prepared for occasional puddles, leaves, uneven patches or slippery sections following poor weather. As the route uses shared public spaces, everyone must remain considerate of pedestrians, cyclists and other park users.
Poole parkrun can become particularly busy, so first-time visitors should arrive early enough to find the start, listen to the briefing and position themselves according to their anticipated pace.

Registration is free and only needs to be completed once. Once registered, the same parkrun profile and barcode can be used at participating parkrun events around the world.
You do not need to book a place each week. Simply register beforehand, save or print your personal barcode and arrive in time for the start.
A scannable barcode is required for your participation and finishing time to be recorded. Barcodes can be printed, downloaded to an electronic device or accessed as a QR code through the official parkrun app. Participants without a barcode may still complete the course, but they will not receive an official result.
After crossing the finish line, participants enter the finish funnel and receive a position token. This token must then be taken to the barcode-scanning volunteers, who scan both the position token and the participant’s personal barcode.
The position token belongs to parkrun and must be returned before leaving. Results are normally processed later the same day and are sent to registered participants by email.
Poole parkrun is suitable for people of a wide range of fitness levels and running experience. You can:
There is no expectation to be fast, and regular attendance can offer a relaxed way to build confidence, become more active and meet other people locally.

Children aged four and above can register and receive an official result.
Children under the age of 11 must remain within arm’s reach of a parent, guardian or another appropriate adult chosen by their parent throughout the 5K event. Young participants should be capable of completing the full distance safely.
Participants may complete Poole parkrun with one dog on a short, handheld, non-extendable lead. Waist harnesses are not permitted, and the dog must remain under close control and within reach throughout the event.
Dog owners must be considerate of other participants and park users, particularly around the busy starting area and narrower parts of the course. Separate provisions apply to assistance dogs.
Poole railway station is within walking distance of Poole Park. Allow approximately ten minutes or more to reach the event area, depending on the station exit used and your walking pace.
Poole bus station is also close to the park, making public transport one of the easiest ways to attend.
Participants are encouraged to walk, run, cycle or use public transport where possible. Arriving without a car also avoids congestion around the park on busy Saturday mornings.

Vehicles are not normally permitted to drive through Poole Park before 10am, so participants should not expect to park beside the start line.
The official event information identifies the Dolphin swimming pool car park, postcode BH15 1TN, as the nearest public parking option. It is situated across the road from the park.
Parking arrangements and charges can change, so participants should check local signs and allow additional time to walk from the car park to the start. Where possible, travelling by public transport, walking, cycling or car-sharing is recommended.
Poole Park has public facilities and several places to buy refreshments, although availability and opening hours may vary.
Participants should arrive dressed and prepared to complete the event, as parkrun does not operate like a conventional organised road race with changing rooms, baggage services or water stations.
It is sensible to:
The largely flat park setting may make Poole more manageable than hillier parkrun courses, but conditions can vary. The route includes grass and other surfaces which may become wet, uneven or muddy.
Anyone with specific mobility or accessibility requirements should contact the Poole parkrun volunteer team before attending to discuss the current route and any support they may need.

Poole parkrun is delivered entirely by volunteers, with roles available for people with different levels of experience.
Possible roles can include:
Volunteering is a useful way to become part of the community without completing the 5K. Anyone interested can contact the team at poole@parkrun.com.
Participants often continue the social side of the morning by visiting one of the cafés or concessions within Poole Park or heading into Poole town centre for coffee and breakfast.
Joining the post-parkrun gathering can be especially helpful for first-time visitors who want to meet regular participants and become more involved in the community.
