About Poole Hockey Club

Poole Hockey Club was founded in 1893 and is one of the UK’s oldest hockey clubs. It describes itself as a family-focused community club offering friendly, competitive and inclusive hockey for different ages and abilities.

Teams and Training

The club currently runs three men’s teams and two women’s teams, with senior hockey available from age 13. Women’s coaching usually takes place on Tuesday evenings from 7pm to 8.30pm, while men train on Wednesdays from 8pm to 9.30pm.

Senior teams play regular Saturday matches between September and March in England Hockey’s South Central region.

Junior Hockey

Junior coaching is available for children aged five to 12 and normally takes place on Saturdays from 9am to 10am between September and March. Players can also take part in monthly seven-a-side tournaments hosted by hockey clubs across Dorset.

Joining the Club

Poole Hockey Club welcomes beginners, returning players and experienced hockey players throughout the season. Membership options include senior, concession, family, social and junior pay-as-you-go arrangements, with separate match fees for competitive fixtures.

The club also operates a Player Support Fund for members who need help with membership, match, equipment or development costs. Current fees and joining details should be checked directly before registering.

Volunteering

Volunteers can help with coaching, umpiring, junior sessions, administration and club activities. Previous coaching experience is not always necessary, and support is available for people interested in developing qualifications or leadership skills.
