From island adventures and sunset cruises to peaceful gardens and watersports, these date ideas in Poole offer something for couples with very different interests.
A short ferry journey can make an ordinary day out feel like a genuine escape, and Brownsea Island is one of Poole’s most distinctive experiences for couples.
Boats depart from Poole Quay, leaving the busy waterfront behind as they cross the harbour towards the island. Once ashore, we can spend several hours following woodland paths, searching for red squirrels and stopping at viewpoints overlooking the water.
Brownsea’s mixture of woodland, heathland, shoreline and wildlife-rich lagoon gives each part of the island a different atmosphere. It is particularly suited to couples who enjoy walking and nature but do not necessarily want to attempt a demanding countryside hike.
The National Trust operates a café on the island, although bringing a picnic creates more freedom to find a quiet spot away from the busiest areas.
